Over the past six years, multi-partner rewilding efforts have supported the recovery of endangered Dalmatian pelican populations across southeastern Europe. Coordinated by Rewilding Europe and supported by the European Commission, the “Pelican Way of LIFE” initiative has secured a brighter future for this majestic bird and emphasised the importance of wetland restoration.

An exhibition dedicated to the birds of the Danube and their habitats is on display in the Sea Garden in Varna in Bulgaria until September 22. The symbol of the exhibition is the Dalmatian pelican.

The “Festival of the Dalmatian Pelican” third edition organized by Persina Nature Park Directorate collected many smiles and beaming children’s faces. The event took place on May 26 and 27 on the yard of the park’s visitor center as part of the “Pelican Way of LIFE” initiative.

Romanian Ornithological Society (SOR) launched a vote for a Bird of the Year 2023. The campaign, held in November and December, highlights three species, the Dalmatian pelican among them, listed in the newly published Red List of Romanian bird species.

At the beginning of June, Festival of the Dalmatian Pelican took place in Bulgaria for the second time, organised by the Persina Nature Park Directorate and partners.

The first nature protection festival dedicated to the Dalmatian Pelican, organized by Persina Nature Park Directorate, has passed. The event took place on July 2 and 3 in front of the Visitor Centre of the park with a rich and interesting program.
